If the carrier appears only before a car ride, many cats learn to avoid it. Leave a sturdy carrier open in a quiet room, add familiar bedding, and let your cat investigate at their own pace. Never force a frightened cat inside as a training exercise.
Build comfort in small steps
When your cat chooses to approach, reward that choice with praise or a treat. Later, practice closing the door for a few seconds, then carrying the carrier around the room. Keep sessions short and stop if your cat becomes tense.
