Switching Pet Food Without Upsetting Their Routine

A new food may be recommended because of age, availability or a veterinary plan. Whatever the reason, a calm transition is easier to monitor than changing everything at once. Keep meal times and the feeding place familiar while you introduce the new food gradually according to your veterinarian鈥檚 advice and the food maker鈥檚 guidance.

Watch the whole routine

Notice whether your pet is eating comfortably, drinking as usual and passing normal stools. Avoid adding several new treats or supplements during the same week; if your pet reacts, it is much harder to identify the cause.

Some pets need a tailored transition, particularly when a veterinarian has prescribed a specific diet. Contact your clinic if your pet stops eating, seems unwell, or develops persistent vomiting or diarrhea.
