Why Hay Belongs at the Center of a Rabbit鈥檚 Diet

For most healthy adult rabbits, fresh grass hay should be available throughout the day. Rabbits are natural grazers, and chewing fibrous hay supports normal digestive and dental function. Timothy, orchard and meadow hay are examples many families explore, while a rabbit鈥檚 age and health can change what is appropriate.

Keep hay fresh and easy to reach

Offer clean hay in a dry place and refresh it often. Introduce changes gradually and make sure your rabbit continues eating and passing droppings normally. Fresh water should always be available.

Rabbits can become seriously ill when they stop eating or their droppings change substantially. Contact a rabbit-experienced veterinarian promptly if that happens, rather than trying a home remedy.
