Make Nail Trimming Less Stressful for Your Dog

If nail trims worry your dog, start by touching a shoulder and moving toward a paw only while they remain relaxed. Reward brief paw touches, then practice holding a paw for a second. Let your dog sniff the clippers or grinder while it is switched off.

Go slowly and know your limit

When your dog is comfortable, remove only a tiny amount from one nail and finish with a reward. The quick contains sensitive tissue, and nail color can make it difficult to see. Ask your veterinarian or groomer to demonstrate safe trimming for your dog鈥檚 nails.

Do not restrain a struggling dog or try to finish every paw in one sitting. If nails are overgrown, painful or damaged, book professional help. A calm, gradual plan is safer than rushing.
