Before a trip, check that your pet鈥檚 collar tag and microchip contact details are current. Use a well-secured carrier or restraint designed for car travel; a pet should not ride loose in the cabin or in a vehicle bed. Practice with the carrier or harness on short, calm outings before travel day.
Pack for familiar care
Bring your pet鈥檚 usual food, water, medications, leash, waste bags and a familiar blanket. Plan breaks in safe locations and never leave your pet alone in a parked car. Keep vaccination records and your veterinarian鈥檚 contact details accessible.
Ask your veterinarian about motion sickness, anxiety or medication before the journey. Do not give a human medicine to a pet unless your veterinarian specifically directs you to do so.
